Art auction house Sotheby's has opened bidding on its curated collection of Bitcoin Ordinals.

The auction, titled “Natively Digital: An Ordinals Curated Sale,” features 19 lots — including rare Satoshis, a work by leading Bitcoin Ordinals artist Shroomtoshi, generative art and an item connected to the Bitcoin Ordinals Taproot Wizards brand. Auction closes on January 22 at 2:00 PM ET.

“This sale highlights the incredible scope of creative diversity that exists within the Bitcoin ecosystem, where Ordinals has seen tremendous growth over the past year,” Sotheby’s wrote in a statement.

Sotheby's first ever Bitcoin Ordinals auction

Sotheby's concluded its first auction for Bitcoin Ordinals on December 7, The Block previously reported. The auction contained three lots from the BitcoinShrooms collection, which is considered one of the first Bitcoin Ordinals projects ever created by Shroomtoshi. The auction fetched $450,850 at close, five times the combined estimate for the three lots, Sotheby's said in a statement.

“The sale of three BitcoinShrooms last month served as a test case for introducing Ordinals to the auction market,” Michael Bohana, head of Sotheby’s digital art department, said in a statement. “The tremendous success of this sale was a testament to the tremendous growth of the Ordinals as a new arena for artists and creators to expand the scope of digital art and collectibles and leave a lasting mark on the Bitcoin blockchain. As the Ordinals continues to capture the attention of collectors,” this new avenue will expand the boundaries of how we conceptualize digital collectibles, In addition to highlighting the unique convergence between digital art and cryptocurrency culture.”
