Country music legend Dolly Parton has been married to her beloved husband, Carl Dean, since 1966, but they have never had children together. In a new interview, Parton spoke candidly about why she believes “God wouldn't allow” her to have children.
Barton discusses never having children
“I didn’t miss her as much as I thought I would,” Parton, 77, said, according to Fox News. “When you're a young couple, you think you're going to have kids, but it wasn't one of those fiery things for me. I had my career and my music and I was travelling.”
She continued: “If I had children, I would have stayed home with them, I'm sure, and I would have worried myself to death about them.” “With everything that's going on, I hate bringing a child into this world right now. I always say that God didn't let me have children until all the children were mine.”
Parton previously said that she and Dean are “happy” now that they never had children.
“God has a plan for everything,” Parton said in 2017, according to Country Rebel. “I think maybe it was his plan to not have kids so everyone's kids could be mine. And now they are.”
Parton went on to say that she has always connected with children because her voice sounds like something out of a nursery rhyme.
“I have this high-pitched voice… I'm like Mother Goose or one of those exaggerated characters, and kids feel that,” Parton explained.
Despite how she feels now, there was a time when Parton wanted children with her husband.
“If we had a girl, her name would be Carla,” the country singer said. “Anyway, we talked about it, we dreamed about it, but it wasn't meant to be.”

“God did not intend for me to have children.”
Parton also spoke about her decision not to have children in a 2020 interview with Oprah Winfrey.
“I didn't have kids because I thought God didn't mean for me to have kids so everyone's kids were my kids, so I could do things like Imagination Library because if I didn't have the freedom to work, I wouldn't do it.” “I didn't do all the things I did,” she said.
“I wouldn't be in a position to do all the things I do now,” she added.

Dean avoids the spotlight
Although Dean has been married to one of the most famous women on the planet for nearly 58 years, he has always kept a low profile.
“He doesn't want to be in the spotlight at all,” Parton previously told Entertainment Tonight. “That's not who he is. He said, 'I didn't choose this world. I chose you and you chose this world. But we can keep our lives separate and together.'
Parton also admitted that some people have long thought her husband was fictional.
“A lot of people have thought that over the years, because he doesn't want to be in the spotlight at all,” Barton said. “It's not about who he is. He's a quiet, reserved person, and he thought if he went out there, he wouldn't have a minute of peace and he's right about that.
Although Parton would have been a wonderful mother, we're glad to see that she has no regrets about not having children. What do you think of this? Let us know in the comments section.
