Weather update: Businesses postpone opening and schools close Friday

    Published at 4:33pm Thursday, January 11, 2024

Weather chart from the National Weather Service.

NATCHEZ — Adams County Christian School and Cathedral School will have virtual and remote learning Friday due to inclement weather expected to hit as early as 4 a.m.

The Natchez-Adams School District is waiting for the morning to make any contact about opening or closing schools on Friday, school officials said.

Business offices in Adams County and the city of Natchez — apart from 911, Public Works and other essential workers — will delay the start of work Friday until 10 a.m.

According to the National Weather Service, the storm is expected to be at its worst over the area between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m. Friday. Damaging winds of up to 60 or 70 mph, small hail and tornadoes are possible.

Those who want to report a tree down obstructing roads should call 911, Adams County Emergency Management officials said.

This story will be updated with additional weather closures and delays as they become available.

Information and photos about weather-related damage or business closures can be emailed to sabrina.robertson@natchezdemocrat.com.
