A Wind Warning is in effect for Cochran, Crosby, Garza, Hockley, Lubbock, Linn, Terry and Yoakum counties in Texas from 12:00 PM CST until 6:00 PM CST on Thursday.
Wind Advisories are in effect for Borden, Dawson, Gaines and Scurry County, Texas from 9:00 AM CST on Thursday until 8:00 AM CST on Friday.
A wind warning is in effect for Roosevelt County, New Mexico from 11:00 AM EST until 11:00 PM GMT on Thursday.
A High Wind Warning is in effect for Lea County, New Mexico from 8:00 AM GMT Thursday to 7:00 AM GMT Friday.

Sunny to sunny, windy and generally warm weather will continue Thursday across the Southern Plains and Rolling Plains. Dust blowing areas are also active late this morning and afternoon. Dust sometimes reduces visibility. High temperatures today will vary and range from the mid 50s to upper 60s. Winds will be west-southwesterly at 20 to 40 miles per hour, with gusts ranging from 45 to 55 miles per hour.

Tonight:
A strong cold front will arrive this evening and bring cooler weather to the Southern Plains and Rolling Plains. Scattered rain and snow showers are expected this evening, expected shortly after midnight in some areas. A light dusting of up to an inch of snow accumulation is likely in parts of the south-northwest Plains. Also watch for icy spots overnight. It will become mostly cloudy this evening and tonight. The weather will also remain windy. Low temperatures will range from the mid 10s to mid 20s. Winds will shift to the northwest this evening and tonight at 20 to 30 mph, with gusts sometimes reaching 45 mph. The chance of rain is 30 percent.

Friday:
Watch for icy spots on area bridges, overpasses and some roads Friday morning. Weather is expected to be sunny to mostly sunny, breezy and cool throughout the Southern Plains and Rolling Plains. High temperatures will range from the lower 40s to the lower 50s. Winds will be west-northwesterly at 15 to 25 miles per hour, with gusts sometimes reaching 35 miles per hour.

There is a slight chance of rain and snow showers Thursday evening into early Friday morning across parts of the Southern Plains and Rolling Plains. Otherwise, there is a very small chance of snow showers Sunday afternoon through early Monday morning.
High temperatures will vary on Thursday and range from the mid-fifties to the mid-sixties. Highs on Friday will range from the middle 40s to lower 50s. Highs will vary on Saturday and range from the middle 40s to lower 60s. Highs will also vary on Sunday and range from the mid 20s to mid 40s. Expected highs on Monday will be in the lower to mid 20s. Highs on Tuesday will range from the middle 30s to lower 40s.
Low temperatures on Friday morning will range from the middle 10s to the mid 20s. Saturday morning lows will range from the lower 20s to lower 30s. Monday morning will be very cold with lows ranging from the lower zero (single digits) to the lower 10s (teens). Drought update:
No changes were noted in the latest U.S. Drought Monitor (USDM) update released on Thursday, January 4. Most of the undulating plains and much of the southern plains are still classified as “drought-free” (D0). This includes the Lubbock metro area. Otherwise, the USDM update showed drought conditions continuing to be reported from moderate phase (D1) to severe phase (D2) across the south-northwest Plains. Parts of the far north and southwestern Plains, along with the southern and rolling plains, remain classified as “abnormally dry” (D0).
