    From Tribune staff reports

BIRMINGHAM — The four school districts in the Tribune's coverage area, Leeds City Schools, Jefferson County Schools, St. Clair County Schools and Trussville City Schools, switched to remote learning Friday and plan to keep students and faculty at home.

According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, increasing clouds are expected Thursday night with a low of 46 degrees.

Friday will see rain and possibly a thunderstorm before 3pm, then a chance of showers. High near 62. Windy, southeast wind 20 to 25 mph becoming south 25 to 30 mph in the afternoon. Wind speeds can reach 50 mph. The probability of rain is 90%. New rainfall amounts will likely range between a quarter and a half of an inch.

The Storm Prediction Center shows the Tribune area at level two out of five for potential severe weather.

“Limited low-level moisture, combined with warmer average temperatures, will likely reduce overall buoyancy, dampening the strength of the updraft and intensity of the storm,” James Spann said via social media. “Some strong storms remain possible, especially if low-level moisture is better than expected, with strong kinematics supporting the potential for some damaging convective storms. However, given the forecast thermodynamic profiles, the tornado threat appears lower than previously expected.”
