The storm leaves the Northeast with nearly half a million power outages and flooding
The storm system that wreaked havoc across the United States in the form of snow and deadly tornadoes this week made its final push into the country Tuesday night as it exited across the Northeast. Strong winds, a hurricane and heavy rains caused widespread power outages and flooding in the country's most populous region. The weather is expected to dry out on Wednesday as the storm moves through, but continued high winds could lead to additional power outages throughout the day.
The same areas are preparing for another strong storm
The next big storm that will bring widespread weather problems has already battered the West Coast with rain and snow. The so-called bomb cyclone will move across the west on Wednesday before gaining strength again in the central United States on Thursday. It will bring snow, rain and severe weather to similar areas hit hard by the previous storm this week.
The Arctic blast appears to be headed toward the United States
On the heels of the second major storm this week, a wave of cold air driven southward by an oscillating polar vortex is set to sweep across the United States. The coldest air so far this winter starts late this week in the country's northern tier before making its way all the way to the Gulf Coast by the middle of next week.
