    LUBBOCK, Texas (KLBK) – Here is your updated forecast from the First Weather Warning Center KLBK:

    Weather is expected to be sunny, breezy and warm Wednesday across the Southern Plains and Rolling Plains. High temperatures will vary and range from the lower 50s to the middle 60s. Winds will be west-northwesterly at 15 to 25 miles per hour, with gusts sometimes reaching 35 miles per hour.

    Tonight:
    Conditions are expected to be clear for this evening and tonight. Low temperatures range from the mid-20s to mid-30s. Winds will be southwesterly, at a speed of 5 to 15 knots per hour.

    Tuesday:
    Weather is expected to be sunny to partly cloudy, breezy and still warm on Wednesday across the Southern Plains and Rolling Plains. High temperatures will vary and range from the lower 50s to the middle 60s. Winds will be west-northwesterly at a speed of 15 to 25 knots, with occasional gusts at a speed of 30 to 40 knots.

    Expanded forecast:
    There is a slight chance of rain and/or snow Thursday evening into early Friday morning across parts of the Southern Plains and Rolling Plains. Otherwise, there is a very small chance of rain and/or snow again Sunday afternoon through early Monday morning.

    High temperatures vary on Wednesday and Thursday, ranging from the lower 50s to the middle 60s. Highs on Friday will range from the middle 40s to lower 50s. Highs will vary on Saturday and range from the middle 40s to lower 60s. Highs will also vary on Sunday and range from the mid 20s to mid 40s. Expected highs on Monday will be in the lower to mid 20s. Highs on Tuesday will range from the middle 30s to lower 40s.

    Low temperatures on Thursday morning range between the mid 20s and mid 30s. Lows on Friday will range from the middle 10s to mid 20s. Saturday morning lows will range from the lower 20s to lower 30s. Forecast lows will vary Sunday morning and will range from the middle 10s to upper 20s. Monday morning will be very cold with lows ranging from the lower zero (single digits) to the lower 10s (teens). Another cool morning is on hand for Tuesday with lows once again ranging from the lower zero (single digits) to the lower 10s (teens).

    Drought update:
    No changes were noted in the latest U.S. Drought Monitor (USDM) update released on Thursday, January 4. Most of the undulating plains and much of the southern plains are still classified as “drought-free” (D0). This includes the Lubbock metro area. Otherwise, the USDM update showed drought conditions continuing to be reported from moderate phase (D1) to severe phase (D2) across the south-northwest Plains. Parts of the far north and southwestern Plains, along with the southern and rolling plains, remain classified as “abnormally dry” (D0).
