On Tuesday, Mika Brzezinski, co-host of MSNBC's “Morning Joe,” appeared shocked and upset while analyzing a new poll with NBC's Steve Kornacki that showed Donald Trump making significant gains with evangelical voters.
The far-left host was clearly uncomfortable with these voter trends.
Trump still leads the Republican Party presidential race by a large margin as the caucus in Iowa approaches on January 15.
'I have no words'
The two left-wing hosts of Morning Joe They regularly spend their time thinking about Donald Trump, but this felt different.
“So, with the Iowa caucuses less than a week away, new polls show former President Trump holding a bigger lead with two key groups than in 2016: evangelicals and first-time caucus participants,” Brzezinski said, shaking her head disapprovingly. “
Brzezinski then turned to polling analyst.
“NBC News national political correspondent Steve Kornacki is with us from the Big Board. And I wondered: Steve, what are the latest polls that show us Trump's gains with these two groups?
“I just — I don't have words for evangelical voters at this point,” the host added.
Kornacki showed how evangelicals were increasingly turning toward Trump.
“It's a dramatic shift since 2016 in terms of Trump's standing with evangelicals,” Kornacki said. “We've seen this nationally, and I think that's the bigger story in Iowa. Just a refresher, eight years ago…Trump lost Iowa. He came in second to Ted Cruz. He barely beat Marco Rubio in the third place.
“Remember, it was a few days after Iowa in 2016,” he added [when] People were saying, “Hey, maybe this Trump thing will fall apart.” “He ended up winning New Hampshire and turning things around.”

Sorry Mika
The analyst then showed what has changed for Trump since then.
“But the reason — the main reason Donald Trump lost Iowa in 2016 — is here,” he said, acknowledging the screen that showed Cruz beating Trump by 12 points among evangelical voters. “This is a caucus exit poll. This is the evangelical vote. About 64% of Republican voters in Iowa in 2016 were evangelical.
“And look, Ted Cruz won it. He won it by double digits, 34 to 22 over Donald Trump. So, with Cruz winning by double digits among evangelicals, there was a lot of resistance, a lot of skepticism. Trump had some support,” Kornacki added. “I have evangelicals, but Cruz was the evangelicals' nominee in Iowa in 2016.”
So, where does Trump currently stand with evangelicals in Iowa? Glad you asked!
Mika wasn't happy.
He went on to explain Trump's current stance with evangelicals in Iowa as the 2024 caucus approaches.
“The latest NBC News/Des Moines Register poll from Iowa — it's about a month old, but this is what we've been seeing all year — among evangelicals, look at the shift,” Kornacki said as the screen now showed. Trump leads Ron DeSantis 51% to 26% with evangelicals.
In other words, Donald Trump had ascended. the way with evangelical voters,
