Elon Musk has become more vocal about his views on voter ID laws, suggesting he believes there should be stricter laws to prevent potential voter fraud.
The CEO of X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, has made several posts over the past few days on the topic. Earlier this week, he said the lack of voter ID laws in some states and the simultaneous expansion of mail-in ballots is a “crazy” system.
“In the US, you don't need a government-issued ID to vote, you can mail in your ballot. This is crazy,” he wrote on X.
Musk is calling on all 50 states to implement voter ID requirements for the upcoming 2024 elections.
Voter ID laws vary widely across the United States. Some states have strict requirements, while others have more lenient requirements or no identification requirements to vote at all.

Musk addresses voter identity
Musk's assertion that voter ID laws and mail-in ballots are a “crazy” process in this country's electoral system isn't his only comment on the matter.
“We should require government ID and vote in person (unless there is a medical/military/etc. excuse), as other countries do or want to buy beer,” he wrote.
correct. You need an ID at the DMV. Youth need an ID card at the movie theater to attend an R-rated movie. An ID card to use a golf cart at the local course. To fly. And on and on. But some states do not require anyone to vote.
Sixteen states currently do not require voters to present their ID to vote at the polls on Election Day. However, when it comes to mail-in ballots, ID is not a requirement, and even then only a percentage of states bother to implement signature verification.
Musk went on to point out that elections and vote counting could be conducted over the course of one day, not over weeks and months.
“If the election remains open for 16 hours, basically everyone can vote,” he wrote.

Are identity requirements racist?
The Tesla CEO and billionaire philanthropist also addressed left-wing assertions that voter ID laws could disproportionately affect minority and low-income voters. Democrats often assert that minorities face challenges in obtaining the necessary identification.
Vice President Kamala Harris claimed rural voters would face problems because the local OfficeMax is too far away.
“It is racist to claim that an adult is unable to obtain an ID!” Musk said in response to a suggestion that voter ID is a “racist” requirement.
He added: “The claim that people cannot know how to obtain an ID card is racist and should be condemned in the strongest possible terms.”
X Chief also pointed out that those who say voter ID is unnecessary are the same people during the pandemic who wanted people to present vaccine IDs in order to attend events, dine at restaurants, or even stay at their jobs.
“Literally, the same people who said voter ID is racist also demanded a vaccine ID to travel anywhere or work!” He said.
Early voting should be abolished. Mail-in ballots should be reserved for rare and extreme circumstances. Voting time should never be allowed to be extended. Election Day is named that way for a reason. It is not called “Election Week,” nor is it known as “Election Month.”
The process right now, Musk says, is absolutely “crazy.”
