Two cold fronts over the next week will bring storms and very cold air to North Texas.

DALLAS — The coldest air of the season (so far) is set to reach North Texas by next week.

Here's a look at the forecast for next week:

    quick Facts:

    • Temperatures will rise into the 60s on Wednesday and Thursday
    • Storms are possible Thursday night and Friday morning
    • The coldest temperatures of the season arrive early next week
    • Monitor the potential for winter weather Sunday through Monday

The country is expected to witness a slight rise in temperatures over the next two days, with temperatures rising to higher than normal levels. The first two fronts bring storms and a cooler weekend. The second front brings the coldest temperatures of the season so far.

    Cold front #1

The first front is scheduled to arrive Thursday evening into very early Friday morning. Showers and storms will develop ahead and along the front. Areas east of DFW are at marginal (1/5) and slight (2/5) risk of severe weather potential. The threat is primarily cold and strong winds. Rainfall totals will be low and generally less than a quarter of an inch. The rain tapers off early Friday morning and the rest of the day will be dry, cool and breezy! Highs only reach the 40s on Friday with morning lows in the 20s over the weekend.

For DFW: A quick round of showers and storms are possible Thursday night into Friday morning and move quickly to the east during the day Friday. Most of Friday will be dry and the severe weather threat for DFW appears to be low.

Thursday Night - Friday Morning Cold Front

    Severe weather forecast:

Cold Front #2 (Arctic front and winter weather?)

This is more interesting and cooler. The Arctic front is scheduled to arrive Sunday afternoon into Monday. This is a much stronger push of cold air. Sunday will be cold and windy with cooler air on Monday and Tuesday. Morning lows early next week could be in the teens and possibly even single digits. Highs on Monday likely won't get above freezing.

One thing is for sure…it's going to be very cold next week.

Will it be cold or will the cold continue throughout February 2021? Very unlikely.

But several hours will be well below freezing and you need to prepare for the cold.

This cold snap looks to be very similar to the cold snap that preceded Christmas in December 2022, if you remember that event.

    Now what about winter weather?

It's possible. But no place is closed to guarantee everyone at this point.

There are some computer models running and some automated weather applications showing very severe winter weather in North Texas with several inches of snow and a significant amount of ice from Sunday evening into Monday morning.

There are also computer models that show predictions of bone dryness.

Therefore, guaranteeing any details at this stage is completely unwise, but the possibility exists.

Right now, there is a chance for some wintry weather in parts of North Texas and perhaps favoring the northern and northeastern areas, but we will be watching for the possibility of some weather in the DFW area as well.

As we get closer, hopefully the weather models will be in better agreement and a clearer picture of what to expect from Sunday into Monday.
