And in Georgia, where former President Donald Trump faces a legal battle over the 2020 election, it appears those doing the auditing may now face their own ethical problem.
Or, additional ethical questions, as DA Fani Willis already faced accusations of having an inappropriate relationship with a gang member she was prosecuting.
Now, the district attorney has allegedly hired someone she was romantically involved with to prosecute Trump.
friends with benefits
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution broke the news on Monday, “District Attorney Fanny Willis improperly hired an alleged romantic partner to prosecute Donald Trump and benefited financially from their relationship. “Based on a court application submitted on Monday, it says the indictment is unconstitutional.”
The story continued:
The surprise public filing alleged that special prosecutor Nathan Wade, a private attorney, paid for lavish vacations he took with Willis using Fulton County funds received by his law firm. County records show Wade, who played a prominent role in the election interference case, has collected nearly $654,000 in legal fees since January 2022. The district attorney is authorizing his restitution.
The motion filed on behalf of defendant Michael Roman, a former Trump campaign official, seeks to dismiss the charges against Roman and disqualify Willis, Wade and the entire district attorney's office from continuing to prosecute the case.
This is a very serious accusation, which will require some evidence on the part of Michael Roman. But if true, Rep. Willis would likely face questions about her entire record, not just her record on impeaching Trump.

“Ongoing personal relationship”
The American Jewish Committee added: “It is unclear whether the explosive issues raised in the dossier undermine the validity of the indictment against Trump and the remaining 14 defendants or simply muddy the waters by calling into question Willis's professional ethics.”
There is allegedly no clear evidence of the relationship other than “sources close to both the special prosecutor and the prosecutor have confirmed that they have an ongoing personal relationship.”
These sources say that the romantic relationship between Willis and Wade dates back to before Wade was appointed special prosecutor and that they took cruises together.

If this was true, did they really think they could keep their relationship a secret?
However, this is not a good look for those seeking to punish Trump.
It's about the worst possible appearance for those who pursue him, especially in light of his focus on fighting political corruption.
In fact, this can pose a big problem in this case.
Time will tell.
