    How did Sinead O'Connor die? The coroner confirms the cause of death about six months after the Irish singer's death

    Irish singer Sinead O'Connor died at the age of 56 in July 2023, and her cause of death was confirmed in a recent statement from Southwark Coroner's Court in London. According to the BBC, the statement revealed that: He died of natural causes.

    This came after the singer was found unresponsive in her south London home on July 26 and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities stated that her death is not considered suspicious.

    London Police said in a statement:

    “Police were called at 11.18am on Wednesday 26 July to reports of an unresponsive woman at a residential address in the SE24 area. Her next of kin have been notified. The death is not being treated as suspicious. A file will be prepared for the coroner.”

    In July 2023, when news of the artist’s death emerged, no details were revealed about the cause of her death. Sinead O'Connor died of natural causes, Southwark Coroner's Court announced on Tuesday.

    “This is confirmation that Ms. O’Connor died of natural causes,” they said in a statement, according to the BBC.

    Irish President Michael D Higgins praised the talented artist and said that she had a “very beautiful” and “unique” voice. He also expressed his hope that she would find peace and said:

    “What Ireland has lost at such a relatively young age is one of the greatest and most gifted composers, songwriters and performers of recent decades, who had a unique talent and an extraordinary connection with her audiences, all of whom had such love and warmth for her.”

    In 2018, O'Connor underwent a personal transformation. She converted to Islam and took the name Shuhada Sadaqat. However, on the professional front, she continued to perform under her birth name. In 2021, she published her memoirs, memorieswhere she shared insights into her life and career.


    Sinead O'Connor's funeral was held in her hometown of Bray, County Wicklow. Fans gathered along the waterfront during the funeral march and sang to honor the artist. Famous musicians such as Bono, The Edge and Adam Clayton of U2 were in attendance at her private funeral service. Bob Geldof, lead singer of the band Boomtown Rats, also attended the funeral and followed the procession in a taxi later.

    A special tribute concert, Sinéad & Shane, is scheduled to take place at Carnegie Hall on March 20, honoring both Sinéad O'Connor and The Pogues singer Shane MacGowan. Featuring artists including Mountain Goats, Cat Power and Dropkick Murphys, the event will celebrate the lives and legacy of these two influential musicians.
