What is the forecast for Friday?
Some sticking around rain showers and snow showers will be possible late tonight and overnight Saturday morning across part of far northern Oklahoma with no impacts.
Another fast wave crosses the area Saturday night and Sunday morning with a small window for some light snow or rain showers across far northeast OK and northwest Arkansas. A stronger storm system arrives early next week with rain on Monday and snow chances on Tuesday.
As the dry hole quickly moves into the area and the rain stops, temperatures will rise into the mid-30s by mid-morning. Afternoon highs will reach the lower 40s across northern selections and mid 40s across southeast OK. Any snow falling early this morning will melt quickly later in the afternoon.
Saturday morning temperatures will start in the 20s and end with highs in the lower 40s. Southerly winds return Sunday with afternoon highs approaching the upper 40s and lower 50s. By Sunday evening, gusty southeast winds will increase to 15 to 30 mph as pressure drops ahead of the next strong storm system.
Rain will develop quickly late Sunday evening and spread across much of central and eastern OK through Monday with morning lows near 40 and afternoon highs in the mid 40s. A surface area of low pressure will develop along the Red River and emerge northeast Tuesday morning. As this feature moves across far eastern OK, a band of snow will develop as cold air moves to the surface and moves high over eastern parts of the state. This pattern could bring moderate to heavy snow in some areas. Strong northwest winds of 20 to 35 mph will also support blowing snow.

How do I prepare my home for freezing?
The City of Tulsa says it's important to protect your pipes from the cold.
Officials recommend protecting outdoor pipes by disconnecting garden hoses from your home and installing covers on outdoor faucets.
Also, if the sink is along the exterior wall of your home, allow a little water to flow and open the cabinet doors to allow warm air to circulate.
The National Weather Service says that when temperatures drop to 28 degrees Fahrenheit or below for a few hours, you should bring pets inside, protect sensitive plants, protect outdoor pipes, allow indoor faucets to drip and turn off automatic sprinklers.
Space Heater Safety Tips (via CBS News)
- If you use a heater, make sure it is not too close to things that can burn such as upholstered furniture, clothing, a mattress or bedding.
- Never connect a space heater to an extension cord, always plug it directly into a wall outlet.
- Remember to turn it off before leaving the room or going to bed. Keep it out of reach of children and pets. Look for signs of malfunction, especially on older models.
- Make sure it has an auto shut off function.
- Make sure you have smoke detectors that operate with new batteries. Change the battery twice a year.
On average, fires caused by portable heaters cause 65 deaths and 150 injuries annually, according to the US Fire Administration.
Overnight Sunday, firefighters battled several house fires across Tulsa as temperatures dropped below freezing.
