04 November Minor security incident at Bitfinex
In media releases
Bitfinex announces that it has resolved a minor information security incident, which was discovered earlier this week.
A small portion of our customer support panels, which contain partial, incomplete and outdated information, were accessed by an individual or group, through phishing to a customer support agent who did not have superior permissions and therefore only had limited access to the support tools and office. Help tickets.
No Bitfinex systems were hacked and there was no loss of customer funds. No access to server, wallet or database infrastructure. Law enforcement authorities have been notified.
At no time were customer assets on the platform at risk, nor was password information accessible. Most of the affected customer accounts were empty or inactive. We are continuing to review the incident and compromised information. We are in the process of contacting all affected customers.
Bitfinex has a very close relationship with law enforcement and will work with investigative authorities to track down the perpetrator of this minor security incident. We have a proven track record of securing successful convictions against individuals who have attempted to attack our operations in the past.
Bitfinex regularly reviews its security procedures and all employees are required to undergo mandatory cybersecurity training.
