    * Winter storm watch Saturday for Frederick, Md.; Western Loudoun County, Virginia; Western Fauquier County, Virginia; And the western and northwestern provinces *

A somewhat subjective assessment of today's weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

7/10: Fairly sunny with limited breezes. A decent end to the work week in January when it's cooler and cloudier.

    • today: Mainly sunny. Highs: near 40 to mid 40s.
    • Tonight: Increasing clouds. Lows: mid 20s to around 32.
    • tomorrow: Snow, frost and rain in most areas. Highs: mid 30s to around 40.
    • Sunday: Rain and snow showers possible in the morning. Highs: Around mid 40s.

It will be cold but sunny today before rain tomorrow which may start off as snow before turning to rain in most of the area. Winter storm watches have been lifted for the far western and northwestern suburbs, where snow may accumulate enough to disrupt travel. We also have a risk of localized flooding near and east of Interstate 95 at the height of the storm on Saturday.

tomorrow is Saturday): We expect light frost and snow to arrive by mid-morning, sooner south and later north, and rain remaining in southern Maryland. Some spots are possible in the northern and western suburbs of the area from Saturday morning until the afternoon. Light snow accumulation is possible, especially west and north of I-95 โ€” the further north and west we go, the greater the chance of seeing an inch or more โ€” with most places turning to sleet and then rain fairly quickly. Later in the afternoon, rain may be heavy at times.

High temperatures should exceed the 32-degree freezing mark in most locations east of the Blue Ridge, with a few areas around 40 degrees before the storm ends. Northeast winds will likely gust near 25 mph in the late afternoon. Confidence: average

Tomorrow night: The rain should taper off to showers during the evening. Our typically colder locations could see more snow before sunrise with the clouds breaking in a bit. Temperatures are fairly stable, in the low to mid 30s. Northwest winds will slowly ease, with wind speeds dropping to less than 10 mph at dawn. Confidence: average

Sunday: Rain or snow may continue early. The clouds slowly give way to more sunlight as time goes on. High temperatures should peak around a few degrees up to 45. Some winds from the northwest could reach around 25 mph. Confidence: average

Sunday night: Cloud levels should continue to decline. Low temperatures should drop into the upper 20s to mid 30s. Confidence: average

High pressure takes over for a short time Monday, which gives us a lot of sunlight. High temperatures should at least peak in the low to mid 40s. Winds should remain light to moderate. Confidence: medium-high

Another storm system arrives Tuesday Which tends towards wet, rainy conditions more than winter. High temperatures should quickly trend down into the mid 50s. We may have some strong winds and erratic flooding to contend with as well, so stay tuned. Confidence: low-medium

A daily assessment of the likelihood of at least one inch of snow falling in the coming week, on a scale of 0 to 10.

4/10 (โ†): It will be difficult to get much, or even an inch, along and east of I-95 with marginal temperatures on Saturday. The farthest west and northwest suburbs have the best chance of accumulating snow.
