Hollywood is in mourning today after the death of former “Starksy & Hutch” star David Soul, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 80.
Soul dead at 80
The Daily Mail reported that Sol's death was confirmed by his grief-stricken wife, Helen Snell, who took to social media to reveal the news to fans.
“David Saul – beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother – passed away yesterday after a courageous fight for life in the company of loving family,” Snell said.
She continued, “He shared many extraordinary gifts with the world as an actor, singer, storyteller, creative artist, and dear friend.” “His smile, laughter and passion for life will be remembered by many whose lives he touched.”
Born in Chicago, Illinois in 1943, Saul is best known for playing Detective Ken “Hutch” Hutchinson alongside Paul Michael Glaser's Detective Dave Starsky on the television show “Starsky & Hutch,” which ran for four seasons on ABC from 1975 to 1975. 1979. The show showed the title characters fighting crime on the streets of the fictional city of Bay City, California in a bright red Gran Torino, with Antonio Vargas playing their informant, who was known as Huggy Bear.
Soul was also a popular pop star in his heyday, having a hit in the US and UK with his catchy 1976 song “Don't Give Up on Us, Baby”.

Before his death, Saul lived in London with Snell, his fifth wife, whom he met while touring the UK in a 2002 stage production of “Deathtrap.” Sol obtained British citizenship in 2004, according to the BBC, and has been vocal about his love of living in the UK, having previously said he “wants to spend the rest of his life” there.
“Britain is beautiful. I love South Devon very much, and the gloom of Dartmoor,” Sol once said. “And I love being in a country steeped in history. I return to the United States about three times a year as my five children live there, although my daughter lives here.
He continued: “When Paul Michael Glaser and I were filming Starsky & Hutch in the 1970s, Princess Margaret once came to meet us on set because she liked the show.” “We took her out for lunch, and suffice it to say we didn't go back to work in the afternoon. We're also told that the Queen Mother once said: 'I love these boys so much!'
“But I don't think I'll ever be Sir David, even though I act like it sometimes!” Soul concluded. “The only person I care to call Sir David is my wife, as I call her Lady Helen!”

Subsequent career of the soul
Both Soul and Glaser appeared in the 2004 big screen remake of the film Starsky and Hatch, which starred Ben Stiller as Starsky and Owen Wilson as Hutch. Sol also recently enjoyed success playing the late talk show host Jerry Springer in “Jerry Springer – The Opera” in London’s West End.
