After cold rain and thick fog marked the start of the new year, the first weekend of 2024 looks promising with clearer skies.
Light rain is expected Thursday afternoon and evening from the northbound I-10 corridor, with cooler temperatures across the Permian Basin, according to the National Weather Service. While to the west, a high wind warning is in effect for the Guadalupe and Delaware Mountains late Thursday morning into Thursday evening.
Westerly winds ranging between 30 and 50 mph could reach speeds of about 70 mph, the report said. “Put your hands on the wheel because driving can be tough.”
“West Texas can expect cold, sunny and windy weather throughout the weekend,” Hearst Newsroom Meteorologist Anthony Franzi said as he made weekend plans.
“You'll need a jacket on Saturday, as highs only reach the low 50s, and winds will be gusting 20 mph by the afternoon,” Franz added. He added: “Temperatures will rise by a few degrees on Sunday, but the winds will also be stronger. Some gusts will reach 35 to 40 mph Sunday afternoon and evening.
Starting the work week Monday morning temperatures are expected to reach the low 50s with mostly sunny skies and increasing winds, the NWS reported.
