With Joe Biden facing an impeachment inquiry and questions about his age and cognitive ability amid the case Worst poll for a sitting president running for re-election Decades later, Kamala Harris should be in a position to step onto the campaign trail to replace Biden at the top of the ticket.
However, Harris, who ignominiously withdrew from the 2020 Democratic presidential primary before the first vote was taken due to her poor polling — including in her home state of California (just 7%), remains deeply unpopular four years later.

Harris, whose father was a black man from Jamaica and whose late mother was from India, is exploiting her black identity on the campaign trail more than her Indian heritage. For example, Harris's recent post of 2023:

A USA Today/Suffolk University poll conducted Monday showed Harris polling worse than Biden among Black voters. Harris, a graduate of Howard University, recently completed a tour of HBCUs (historically black colleges and universities) that clearly failed to impress.

Kamala Harris' standing is lagging among black voters and young voters
…The Biden team sent Vice President Kamala Harris as a natural envoy to college campuses, including some historically black colleges. She is the first black and Asian American to serve as vice president, and at 59 years old, she is younger than Jill Biden, who is 81 years old.
But the results reveal the difficulties that she herself faces with the Democratic base. She has lower job approval ratings than Biden among black voters, 56% compared to 68%. She trails Biden among voters under 35 as well, 27% compared to 32%.
Overall, the approval rate for Biden's job was 39%, compared to 58% who disapproved. Of these, 43% strongly disagree and 13% strongly agree.
Harris' job approval rating is 33%, while 57% disapprove. Of these, 40% strongly disagree and 7% strongly agree.
Harris has failed spectacularly at one of the first jobs Biden gave her: border czar. Millions upon millions of illegal aliens stream across the country's borders endlessly despite Harris being tasked with finding the root cause of the mass migration.
Harris's public speaking style of word authority and loquaciousness has become a source of humor among Republicans and annoyance for Democrats. Harris is clearly not a nice person to work with, as he has been disrupting staff at a much higher rate than Biden.
In the first year of the Biden administration, much effort was made to prepare Harris to step in if necessary, and now the hope seems to be that Harris will be insurance against impeachment — she is so unpopular and incompetent that Republicans and Democrats would fear making her elected president. Vote to convict and remove Biden.
