The city of Akron, Ohio, just swore in its new Democratic mayor, Shamas Malik. In one of his first stints as mayor, Malik hired staff to focus on DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) and climate change.
Public opinion is completely exhausted by the left's obsession with these two issues, and Democrats don't care.
DEI is divisive and destroying our institutions of higher education. Climate change is an excuse to tell people what they can and cannot buy, where they can and cannot live, and how they are allowed to use energy.
The new mayor is clearly trying to please the Democratic voters who elected him.
Washington Examiner report:
The new Democratic mayor of Akron, Ohio announced the DEI and Climate Change Team is taking the first steps
Newly sworn in Akron, Ohio, Mayor Shamas Malik has named three new Cabinet officials, including the Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and a newly created Director of Sustainability and Resilience.
Esther Thomas will serve as owner director of DEI, Casey Shevlin will serve as director of the new climate-focused office, and Stephanie Marsh will join as owner communications director, according to his office. The group joins Chief of Staff Brittany Grimes Zahringer and Chief Strategy Officer Nanette Pitt, both of whom were appointed in mid-December, to Malik's cabinet.
The 32-year-old, Akron's first millennial mayor, made the announcement before being sworn in on New Year's Day.
Malik secured the Democratic primary victory in May 2023, and was elected in November.
Today we announced four new members to our team – including the city's first-ever Director of Sustainability and Resilience. I'm really excited about the team we're building!

Republicans should definitely start fielding more city mayoral candidates. You can't win if you don't play.
