In celebration of the 55th anniversary of its Seiko 5 Sports watch, the watch brand has unveiled four limited-edition “Customize” timepieces in homage to the vintage.
Every piece of the Seiko 5 Sports ‘Customize’ Limited Edition has been designed by fans who entered the ‘Customize’ contest. For the competition, fans were given the freedom to create their own versions of the Seiko 5 Sports watch with references to elements from the original 1968 model. The final four are chosen based on the number of votes they receive, each representing a different region or country, ranging from Europe, the Americas, Japan, and Asia.
The European design version can be distinguished by its bold and bright orange dial with a sporty bezel. Meanwhile, the Americas design version takes a more classic approach with a black dial, monochromatic bezel, and gold-tone indexes. On the other hand, the Japanese-designed watch takes on a more minimalist look, with the dial and the entire bezel completely dipped in silver, while the Arabic numerals have been deleted from the bezel.
For the Asia design edition, the piece comes in a head-to-toe copper color with a gold plated stainless steel case. To complete the opulent look, the bezel comes in a burgundy color with contrasting white indices and numbers. The indices are also highlighted in the same copper color, while the hour, minute, and second hands come with a silver finish.
Each version will be released as a limited edition of 1,968 pieces, featuring a 42.5mm case size and equipped with a standard Seiko 4R36 automatic and manual. The watches launched in March with prices ranging from £270 to £340 (around $325 – $410), and are now available for pre-order via Seiko’s official website and select stores.
