    KCPD identifies a pedestrian killed in an officer and K-9 crash

    The Kansas City, Missouri, police department has identified the 52-year-old pedestrian who died Wednesday night in an accident that also killed an officer and his K-9 partner, and the announcement comes a day after funeral plans were arranged for Officer James Mulbauer and his K-9 partner. Champ.KCPD has identified the pedestrian as 52-year-old Jesse Ickes. The fatal two-vehicle crash occurred shortly after 10 p.m. on February 15, 2023. Jeron Lightfoot, 18, faces the first of two counts: first degree manslaughter for the crash. Police say Lightfoot was driving a white Ford Fusion heading south on Benton Boulevard. When he fails to stop at a red light. The 18-year-old’s car then hit Muhlbauer’s blue Ford Crown Victoria, which was traveling due east through a nearby intersection along Truman Road, and after the initial collision, Muhlbauer’s car crashed into a concrete traffic light island on which Eckes was sitting. The 52-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. K-9 Champ’s partner, who was traveling with Muhlbauer, also died at the scene. Muhlbauer was taken to a district hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was taken into custody by the Kavkaz Center police at the scene. The Kansas City Police Fraternal Organization has created a fund to support Officer Muhlbauer’s family.

    KCPD identified the walker as 52-year-old Jesse Ickes.

    The two-car crash occurred shortly after 10 p.m. on February 15, 2023.

    Jeron Lightfoot, 18, faces two counts of first-degree manslaughter over the incident.

    Police say Lightfoot was driving a white Ford Fusion heading south on Benton Boulevard. When he fails to stop at a red light. The 18-year-old was then struck by Mullpower’s blue Ford Crown Victoria, which was heading east through a nearby intersection along Truman Road.

    Mahlepour was taken to the district hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

    Lightfoot was slightly injured in the incident and was detained at the scene by the KC police.

    The Kansas City Police Fraternal Organization has created a fund to support Officer Muhlbauer’s family.
