Temple University has confirmed that a Temple University police officer was killed while attempting to arrest a suspect Saturday night at 1700 W. Montgomery Street in Philadelphia.
Police said that, shortly after 7 p.m., the officer attempted to intervene during a carjacking when he was shot.
The officer was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Out of respect for the officer’s friends and family, his identity will not be revealed.
Dr. Jennifer Griffiths said this was the first time a Temple University police officer had lost his life in the line of duty.
The police are looking for at least one suspect. No one is under arrest at this time, according to the police.
The Philadelphia Police Department and the Temple University Police Department are investigating this.
