    A flash flood warning was canceled as the heavy rain ended; Flood Watch is also canceled for Kauai and Niʻihau: Kauai Now

    The National Weather Service in Honolulu has lifted the flash flood warning that was in effect for nearly the entire island of Kawachi as the heavy rains ended.

    Runoff levels are still high but will decrease over the next several hours.

    Kauchi Province reported earlier today that parts of Malu Road in Luhui and Hawakala Road in Kibana Valley are closed due to flooding.

    The following solid waste services are also closed due to weather:

    • landfill station.
    • green waste services at Līhuʻe and Kapaʻa transfer stations,
    • Kauai Community Recycling Services HI5 Redemption Center in Kekaha.

    Maʻalo Road will remain closed through Sunday morning, February 19, due to heavy puddles; All other routes are now open. Solid waste services are expected to resume on Sunday as well.

    The Hawaii Department of Transportation reported just before noon that traffic lights at the intersection of Kūhiō Highway and Kuamoʻo Road, between Hanamāʻulu and Kapaʻa, were out due to flooding. Motorists are urged to use caution at the intersection and treat it as a one-stop stop. Repairs will be made after the floods recede.

    For updates on road conditions and closures, call 808-241-1725. Do not call 9-1-1 unless you have an emergency.

    For weather updates, call the National Weather Service’s automated weather line at 808-245-6001 or visit the agency’s website.

    The National Weather Service also canceled a flood watch that was in effect for the entire prefecture, including Kawachi and Nichijou during the afternoon as the threat of flash floods passed, with the exception of the Big Island and Maui.

    And a high surf warning that was in effect for east facing beaches in the state has been rescinded, as advisory level surfing is no longer expected.
